Nabarangpur: To equip college girls with the basic techniques of fending off attackers and molesters, Nabarangpur district has launched a physical training programme.
“It is an attempt to help girls in picking up self-defence tips so that they can save themselves in case of an untoward incident and stay strong and balanced in adverse situations,” said SP (Nabarangpur) Nitin Kulaskar Dangdu.
Officials said as many as 300 college girl students from across the district will be imparted physical training during the 12-day camp organised at Model Degree College, Teliambaguda on the outskirts of Nabarangpur town.
According to police, the girls will be given training in ‘close-combat training,’ which is a mix of kicks, boxing, lock and hold and karate.
The girls will also be given a demonstration on eve-teasing, chain snatching and knife protection, front fall, body hold and neck hold at the camp.
“Besides these, the students will be given a few other tips that can come in handy in a dangerous situation,” the SP said.
“I am very happy to be a part of the camp and hopeful that the physical training will hel me in dealing with adverse situations in life, if any,” said a participant.
Besides physical training to girls, the police are contemplating a career counselling camp for college students from next month.
“After completing college, students often get confused about selecting the right career and end up trying in each and everything and ultimately they get frustrated,” the SP said.
The career counselling camp will help them in choosing a perfect career in the competitive world, he added.
