Nagrota Encounter Terrorists Planned Major Attack On 26/11 Anniversary: Govt Officials

New Delhi: The four terrorists killed in an encounter on Thursday had been planning a “major attack” on the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, government officials found out.

In the encounter which broke out in the early hours of Thursday, near Ban Toll Plaza in Nagrota area of Jammu district, Indian security forces eliminated the four terrorists. The encounter lasted three hours.

Media reports quoted sources as saying that the four terrorists were from the UN-designated terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, and had recently infiltrated into Indian territory.

“Neutralising of 4 terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed and the presence of large cache of weapons and explosives with them indicates that their efforts to wreak major havoc and destruction have once again been thwarted,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier on Friday, Modi held a high-level review meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and top intelligence personnel, government sources said.

On November 26, 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists targeted Mumbai in a series of well-orchestrated shootings and bombings that killed 166 and injured over 300 people in India’s financial capital.
