Paralakhemundi: A minor girl was allegedly raped by a Naib Sarpanch inside a panchayat office in Odisha’s Gajapati district, sources said on Sunday.
The Naib Sarpanch of Parisal Gram Panchayat under the jurisdiction of Ramagiri police station has been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl.
The family members of the rape survivor have lodged a complaint against the accused, identified as Jaychandra Anand, at Ramagiri police station.
As per the complaint lodged with the police, the minor girl had gone to work in a field located near the Panchayat office on Thursday when the accused called her inside the building and allegedly raped her.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered and a probe launched into the incident, police said adding that efforts are on to trace the accused, who is stated to be on the run.
