Nana Patekar Spoke Of Death Days Before Passing: ‘I Don’t Know Whether I Will Be Here Tomorrow’

Mumbai/Goa: Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died at 75 after a cardiac arrest in Goa, had spoken about mortality and the need to live meaningfully during a public event just days before his death.

Patekar was found unresponsive at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, in the early hours of Thursday. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors performed CPR for about 45 minutes but could not revive him. He was declared dead at around 5.20 am.

According to reports, the actor had messaged a friend around 2.30 am saying he was unwell. The friend reached his home at about 4 am, after which he was taken to hospital.

Final Public Remarks

On October 4, Patekar attended the installation ceremony of Samraat Club International in Dona Paula, where he addressed the gathering in Marathi. His comments on life, death and purpose have since gained attention in light of his sudden demise, as reported by Khaleej Times.

“We all have to go someday. I don’t know whether I will be here tomorrow,” Patekar said.

He urged people to reflect on whether they were using their time well.

“Am I able to do what I want to do? Have I made the effort?” he asked.

Tribute To Manohar Parrikar

During the same event, Patekar remembered former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, whom he described as a friend and a role model.

“Parrikar was a person about whom one could be proud,” he said, adding that although Parrikar was younger, he looked up to him.

“We are fortunate that such a person was born here,” Patekar said, noting that Parrikar had lived as if he was on a mission.

Career And Reaction

Patekar, known for intense performances and a distinctive style, worked in Hindi and Marathi films for nearly five decades. His notable credits include Parinda, Prahaar, Krantiveer, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome and Natsamrat.

Following news of his death, tributes poured in from political leaders, film colleagues and sports figures. Maharashtra has announced a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema.
