Panaji: Goa Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case following the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar. Panaji Police registered the case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to police records, the 76-year-old actor was brought from his residence at Ocean Park in Dona Paula to the casualty ward of Manipal Hospital in Bambolim and was declared brought dead.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Nitin Naik, while police have not disclosed additional details.
Patekar died on October 8 following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Reports stated that he experienced severe chest pain and was found unconscious, prompting the dispatch of a medical team.
He was administered cardiac massage at the scene before being taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 5:20 am.
Earlier, Dr Shekhar Salkar, head of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, said the medical team attempted to revive the actor through CPR for 45 minutes.
However, Patekar remained in asystole, a condition in which no electrical activity is detected in the heart, throughout the resuscitation.
“Despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived. A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, and a post-mortem will be conducted,” Salkar said.
A post-mortem examination was subsequently conducted to determine the cause of death. Patekar’s last rites were also performed on the same day.
The veteran actor was in Goa to attend an event and was last seen in public at a programme in Dona Paula on October 4.
According to PTI, he attended the installation ceremony of Samraat Club International in Goa. Videos from the event have since circulated on social media.
Patekar’s recent film appearances include Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’ Romeo, released in February 2026, as well as Subedaar, Housefull 5 and Vanvaas. He also featured in Prakash Jha’s Sankalp.
