Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park here lost its lone male zebra, who was found dead in its enclosure on Monday morning. It is suspected that the animal died in lighting strike.
“The animal’s food intake and movement was normal till yesterday. There were no symptoms of laziness or weakness. We suspect that the animal died due to heavy lightning last night. However, the exact cause of the death can only be ascertained after an autopsy by veterinary experts,” a release issued by zoo authorities said.
In 2015, four zebras, including the deceased, were brought to the zoo from Tel Aviv Zoo of Isreal under an animal exchange programme.
