New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday took a tough stand on the Nandigram incident in which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured four days ago.
They ordered immediate suspension of senior police officer Vivek Sahay, Director Security, and asked for charges to be framed against him within a week for grossly failing in discharge of his primary duty as Director Security to protect the Z+ protectee.
Further, Vibhu Goel was suspended as DM and DEO of East Midnapore, and transferred to a non-election post. He has been replaced by Smita Pandey.
Also, SP of East Midnapore Pravin Prakash has been placed under suspension with immediate effect and charges will be framed against him for major failure of arrangements at Nandigram.
In his place, Sunil Kumar Yadav was named as SP of the district.
EC’s decisions were based on reports submitted by the West Bengal chief secretary, and the joint report by Special General Observer Ajay Nayak and Special Police Observer Vivek Dube.
