Bhubaneswar: Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd (NHL) has aborted its plan to set up a multi-speciality hospital in Bhubaneswar citing lack of financial viability.
The Bengaluru-based multi-speciality hospital chain on Wednesday said another medical facility has already come up near their project site.
“We are surrendering the 5,937 acres of land allotted to us on a 90-year lease at Mouza Dumuduma in Bhubaneswar by the Odisha government in 2009 for setting up a hospital,” the company said in a communique to BSE.
NHL was confident of setting up a hospital on the allotted land in Bhubaneswar and was in the initial stage of procuring the initial approvals. In 2012, a multi-speciality hospital by another operator commissioned in close vicinity to the allotted land adversely impacted the project’s financial viability, it said.
The company has decided to discontinue the project and surrender the plot to the state subject to refund of the consideration paid for lease of the land, it said.
Since the hospital was not in operations, the decision will not have any impact on the revenues of the company, it added.
In 2012, chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the NHL project at its site near Kanungo Institute of Diabetes Specialties Hospital, around 2 km from All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The hospital had proposed providing super-specialty treatment in neurosurgery, heart and orthopaedic care.
