New Delhi: Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving non-Congress Indian Prime Minister, surpassing late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s combined tenure of 2,268 days (6 years, 64 days).

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Modi was sworn in as India’s 14th Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, after the NDA swept the general elections with BJP winning a majority of seats (282) on its own.

The BJP did even better in the 2019 elections, bagging 303 seats, as Modi won a second term. He has been in the hot for 6 years and 79 days till date.

He’s now the fourth-longest serving Indian PM.

The late Jawaharlal Nehru (16 years, 286 days), his daughter late Indira Gandhi (11 years, 59 days) and Manmohan Singh (10 years, 4 days) occupy the top three places.
