Bhadrak: As many as 12 fishermen had a providential escape as their trawler capsized in Baitarani river in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the fishermen from Digha in West Bengal had gone to deep sea for fishing some days back. Following, the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) about cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal and appeal to the fishermen to return to the shore, they came back in their fishing boat.
The fishermen anchored the trawler at Baitarani river mouth near Dhamra port in Bhadrak district. But the boat started sinking reportedly due to a hole on its side.
On being informed by the locals, the Marine Police and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) rushed to the spot. With the help of local fishermen, they rescued all the fishermen from the water. But they could not retrieve the boat which had capsized due to high tide.
