Jharsuguda: Passengers of Jharsuguda-Gondia Train had a narrow escape, when there was a short circuit in the train as it was entering Jharsuguda station in Odisha on Tuesday.
According to sources, while the passenger train was entering platform 2 of Jharsuguda Junction, there was a technical snag due to a short circuit. Power supply to all compartments was immediately snapped off and there was a loud noise.
Following the short circuit, thick smoke covered the bogies as a few electrical equipment in some compartments blew off, sources said.
Panic spread among passengers following the loud noise, sudden power cut and huge smoke. They screamed for help fearing the train had met a serious accident. But railway sources later confirmed all passengers and railway staff in the train and people on platform 2 were safe and there was no injury to anyone.
Railway staff and technical team immediately rushed to the spot and after a thorough inspection, experts undertook repair. Since the train had to be detained at the platform for repair, rail services were affected for more than an hour on the route. However, normalcy was restored after the repair work, the sources added.
