Narrow Escape For Labourers As Crane Collapses At Construction Site In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Workers engaged in construction work at Bhubaneswar escaped a major accident on Wednesday after a huge crane collapsed at the site.

At least five workers sustained minor injuries in the mishap and have been admitted to Capital Hospital, said sources.

The incident was reported from a colony in Unit 8 area of Odisha capital at 10:15 am.

The crane crashed while iron rods were being raised. “The tower’s centering was completed, and a crane was being used to elevate iron rods. Roof-casting work was underway when the mishap took place,” a worker said.

Sources added that safety precautions were not taken at the site and many workers were working without putting on a helmet and safety gear.

The agency personnel engaged in the work attributed the crash to a mechanical failure. Till last reports came the site was cordoned off and agency involved has been asked to stop work.
