Malkangiri: It was a narrow escape for Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla after a large tree fell on his vehicle during a nor’wester storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds i
n Malkangiri district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the incident took place near Bhallabh House Chowk at Chitrakonda Ghat when the legislator was returning from a nearby village after watching a cricket tournament.
Under the impact of high-velocity wind, a massive tree was uprooted. The uprooted tree crashed onto the leader’s vehicle. The impact left the vehicle severely damaged, while Khilla got trapped inside.
Following the incident, local residents and officials were alerted. People from the nearby Korkel area, along with rescue personnel, rushed to the spot and launched an operation to safely rescue the MLA from the damaged vehicle.
Locals said that Khilla escaped the mishap without suffering any serious injuries. The legislator later confirmed that he was safe and thanked those who helped him.
