Cuttack: It was a close shave for 25 passengers as the bus, in which they were travelling, went over the guard wall of a culvert and kept hanging for sometime on State Highway No 65 near Khuntuni in Odisha’s Cuttack district late on Monday.
According to sources, the driver fell ill and lost control over the wheel when the night coach bus was en route to Kuchinda in Sambalpur district Bhubaneswar. The vehicle then crashed against the divider, veered towards the railing of the culvert and got hung over it.
On being informed, Khuntuni police along with the locals rescued all the passengers. The bus driver, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, was rushed to Athagarh Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
The bus was later removed from the railing using a crane, sources added.
In October 2023, a similar accident was reported when a bus rammed into a railing on a bridge over the Mahanadi and perched precariously from it. The passengers were evacuated from the bus windows, leading to their miraculous escape.
