Nation Celebrates Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Apart from Puri, Rath Yatra is also celebrated in different parts of the country. Here is how it is celebrated in other cities of the country.

Rath Yatra in Bengaluru:

ISKCON Seshadripuram celebrates Rath Yatra in the city of Bengaluru every year. Being the oldest Jagannath Rath Yatra in Karnataka, this festival is the biggest street festival.

There is singing, chanting and dancing to rhythmical drums and cymbals during the festival.

Rath Yatra in New Delhi:

Delhi also prepares Rath Yatra from the Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas Temple. Delhi LG and BJP Minister Manoj Tiwari was the chief guest. The nine-day annual festival of Jagannath Rath Yatra started today.

Rath Yatra in Navi Mumbai:

Navi Mumbai Rath Yatra is celebrated in Kharghar with great pomp and gaiety.

A special ceremony was held on Friday evening when the ‘Chariot flag’ was posted on the 33-feet tall wooden chariot in Kharghar.

On Saturday, Lord Jagannath was seen along with his elder brother Balaram and Devi Subhadra on the decorated chariot. The chariot headed towards Gundicha Ghar.

Devotees from every nook and corner came to Kharghar to pull the rope.

The festival here will continue for nine days till July 22.

 

Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad:

The 141st Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath was also celebrated in Ahmedabad. Lakhs of devotees flocked to the 18km route to catch a glimpse of the deity.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel performed ‘Chhera Pahanra’ Niti- a ritual of cleaning the way for the chariots using a golden broomstick.

The yatra started from the 400- year-old Jagannath Temple in the Jamalpur area.

BJP president Amit Shah performed ‘Mangla Aarti’ of the deities in the temple during the early hours of Saturday.

Rath Yatra in Kolkata:

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday flagged off the 47th Rath Yatra at ISKCON’s Albert Road temple in Kolkata.

ISKCON has been organizing the car festival here since 1971.

The festival attracts a large number of devotees every year. They pull the chariots with deities on them.

Rath Yatra in Hyderabad:

The ISKCON, Secunderabad organised the car festival on Friday. The yatra was followed by devotional cultural programmes and Maha Aarati at the temple ground.
