Bhubaneswar: An inhumane incident has come to light in Bhubaneswar where an accident victim bled to death at Gohira square on Tuesday afternoon as onlookers did nothing except for expressing concern over his situation.
The deceased has been identified as Anand Pradhan, a resident of Nirankari Nagar near Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the accident took place when his scooter was hit by an oil tanker. Pradhan lied unattended for half an hour on the road and succumbed to his injuries before police and ambulance could reach the spot.
The passers-by made no effort to take him to a nearby hospital despite the Good Samaritan scheme, which encourages people to save accident victims.
Notably, the government on October 2021 declared that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will provide an assistance of Rs 5,000 to Good Samaritan for saving the life of a victim of a fatal accident involving a motor vehicle by extending immediate help and rushing to hospital/trauma care centre within the golden hour.
