Bhubaneswar: Odia classic ‘Stree’ starring Goura Ghose and Parbati Ghose will be screened at Odissi Reaserch Centre auditorium here on Saturday.
The film directed by Siddharth had received the National Award for Best Odia Film in 1969.
City-based Film Journalist Forum (fjf) is organising the event under its Smruti Chhaya series, in which classics like ‘Suryamukhi’, ‘Sadhana’, ‘Shri Lokanath’ and ‘Sansaar’ were earlier screened.
A landmark cinema of Odia film industry, ‘Stree’ had some memorable songs like ‘Ganga je deshe bahe’, ‘Mo akhira jete katha’ and ‘Sanja sakale tuma chhabi khoje’ composed by Bhubanesawr Mishra.
“The film’s reel was in a very bad shape. It was a herculean task to ready it for screening. We have added a few songs which were edited from the films during the release,” said FJF founder-secretary and film historian Surya Deo.
Prior to the screening, two booklets in memory of Parbati Ghose and Goura Ghose will be released. Eminent personalities associated with the film will also be felicitated.
“The purpose behind screening these classics is to revisit our golden days and at the same time, restore the film again. I wish young artistes associated with the industry watch the film as a part of their learning,” he added.
