Ahmedabad: Sneha Soren had the distinction of winning Odisha’s first medal at the 36th National Games in Ahmedabad.
Sneha finished third in the women’s 49 kg weightlifting event to bag the bronze medal.
It was an extremely tough competition with 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2022 Commonwealth Games winner Mirabai Chanu claiming gold and two-time (2014 and 2018) Commonwealth Games champion Sanjita Chanu lifting the silver.
Odisha women in Rugby 7s final
In Rugby 7s, Odisha sprung a surprise by beating Bihar 12-10 in a closely-fought women’s semifinal.
Standing between Odisha and gold are the Maharashtra girls, who edged past Delhi by an identical 12-10 scoreline.
Odisha will be gunning for many more medals, including men’s and women’s hockey.
