Bhubaneswar: The national handloom expo kicked off at IDCO Exhibition
Ground, Unit-III here on Monday.
Inaugurating the exhibition organised by the Odisha State Handloom
Weavers’ Cooperative Society Limited, Governor Dr SC Jamir said, “The
exhibition provides a platform for the weavers to sell their produce
directly to consumers without the interference of middlemen and uplift
them economically.”
Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Snehangini Chhuria and
other government officials were present on the occasion.
Around 150 weavers and artisans from Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura,
Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal,
Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, Punjab, Karnataka, Pondicherry,
Manipur, Gujarat, Haryana and Bihar have participated in the
exhibition which will remain open to public from 11:30 am to 9;30 pm
till its conclusion on February 11.
The expo features a wide variety of sarees, bed sheets, dress
materials, household items, bed-covers, bed-sheets, lungis and
furnishing cloth are available in the exhibition.
