National Handloom Summit In Odisha’s Bargarh To Host 50 Exhibitors From 20 States

Bargarh: Bargarh in western Odisha is all set to host the National Handloom Summit on January 4 and 5, 2024.

Stating this at a press meet on Thursday, Bargarh collector ⁠Monisha Banerjee said the Summit is a joint initiative of the district administration, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts department and Western Odisha Development Council (WODC).

Based on the premises of the 4E model for Impact: Engage Educate Enable Empower, the summit is organised in Baragrh for the region’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship.

“The event will felicitate handloom awardees from Odisha and celebrate our handloom heritage while hosting over 50 exhibitors from 20 states across the country. Among the highlights is the globally famous Bandha Lala (tie and dye) work of Bargarh, which renowned for its intricate patterns and vibrant hues,” the collector said.

The summit will offer a platform to the weavers for marketing the products. It will enable interactions leading to signing of MoUs to drive the growth of the handloom industry.

Engaging panel discussions featuring participants from academia and industry will also be organised during the Summit.

During the evenings, the Summit will organise a fusion of handloom, music, dance and poetry. Celebrities from the film, music, literature and industries will not only grace the event but also contribute to the narrative of preserving and promoting India’s handloom heritage.

During a ramp walk, merging tradition with modernity, fashion icons, fashion students, and top designers will showcase how handloom integrates into contemporary fashion.

⁠Aditya Goyal, Project Director, DRDA ⁠and Prasanna Kumar Gantayat, Joint Director of Textile, Bargarh were present at the press meet.
