National Open Athletics: Odisha’s Sarun Payasingh Bags Long Jump Silver, Narrowly Misses Out On Gold

Sarun Payasingh silver in long jump

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Sarun Payasingh claimed silver medal in Men’s Long Jump at the 64th National Open Athletics Championships 2025 in Ranchi.

The 25-year-old Sarun narrowly missed out on gold as his best effort of 7.77 metres was just 10 centimetres less than what gold-medallist Mohammed Sazid of Haryana achieved (7.78 metres).

Sarun, who hails from Kalahandi district, was part of the 4x100m gold-winning Odisha quartet at the National Inter-State Athletics meet in Chennai a month ago.

On Sunday, Services sprinter Manikanta Hoblidhar produced a meet record to win the Men’s 100m title at Birsa Munda Stadium. Hoblidhar clocked a personal-best of 10.19 seconds. He thus became only the second Indian to go under 10.20 after Animesh Kujur, and missed the Odisha sprinter’s national record (10.18) by a whisker.
