Malkangiri: A team of representatives of National SC ST Commission led by its member Anant Nayak held a review meeting on the areas to be affected by the Polavaram project of Andhra Pradesh.
Nayak accompanied by district collector visited the villages in Motu area of the district which are likely to be submerged by the Pollavaram project. According to an estimate of the state government, around 130 villages will be submerged or its tribal population displaced, if the 194-TMC reservoir of the multipurpose project over river Godavari comes up near Rajahmundry in Andhra.
At the review meeting, Nayak was apprised of heavy loss that the tribals will have to bear in terms of cultivable land, forest and houses on the impact of the proposed reservoir. Nayak also met the villagers and discussed the issue with them.
After the meeting, Nayak told the media that the commission will submit a report on the estimate of the loss due to Pollavaram project to the state and Central governments. The team will also visit Andhra and Chhattisgarh areas to be affected by the project, he added.
