Keonjhar: A youth, who was once conferred with National Bravery Award for saving three women from drowning in the Baitarani, has now been accused of raping a minor girl at Katulikana village under Champua police limits in Keonjhar district.
Police have detained him for questioning.
The matter came to light after family members of the girl lodged a complaint at Champua police station on Monday evening.
In the complaint, they alleged that the 17-year-old took the girl to an isolated place on the pretext of offering her noodles last evening and raped her.
“Investigation is underway,” IIC of Champua police station Manoranjan Pradhan said, refusing to divulge details of the case.
On May 22, 2017, the boy, who was then 15, had displayed a strong presence of mind and dived in to save three women drowning in the Baitarani.
