Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday approved Rs 296.5 crore for construction of two instream storage structures in Odisha’s Balangir district.
According to a press release from chief minister’s office (CMO), one structure will be built over Sungarh river at Sikuan/Siletkani and another over Ang river at Kutasingha. While Rs 49 crore has been sanctioned for Sikuan project, Rs 247.5 crore has been approved for Kutasingha structure.
The two projects would benefit the people of four blocks. Sikuan projects would meet the water needs of Deogaon and Balangir blocks and Kutasingha would benefit Dunguripali and Agalpur.
Besides meeting the drinking water needs of the people, the projects would provide irrigation which would facilitate pisciculture and cattle farming.
The two projects were among the proposals that were submitted to 5T chairman by the people during his visit to the district.
It may be noted that the chief minister had approved Rs 386.25 crore for two instream storage structures in Sundargarh district on Friday.
