Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday called upon newly recruited junior engineers to be catalyst in transformation of Odisha.
Speaking at an induction programme of 504 junior engineers (Civil), who joined the state government on the day, the Chief Minister said, “You all are young, confident and full of energy. You are here to serve the people, make their lives change for the better. Develop a passion to give your best.”
He advised the new engineers to follow the 5T principles of Teamwork, Transparency, Technology and Time to see the transformation in their work. “You will see the complete transformation of Odisha in your lifetime and you will be a catalyst of that transformation,” he added.
He further said the government has taken up a drive to bring transformation in every sector of society and ensure improvement in the quality of life of the people. “Our 24/7 Drink From Tap is one such transformative facility that even bigger cities like Delhi and Mumbai do not have. We want to break new ground in all our endeavours,” Naveen said.
Provision of drinking water, sanitation, success of schemes like Basudha, Garima, Drink From Tap, housing facility for urban poor under Jaga Mission and other programmes will be directly managed by these new engineers at the grassroots level.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pradeep Kumar Amat said there was a time when no recruitment was taking place because of the financial crunch in the state. Today, because of the deft handling of the financial situation by the chief minister, two to three recruitments are being made every month.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Usha Devi, Housing and Urban Development ACS G Mathivathanan, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Principal Secretary SK Lohani also spoke at the programme.
Of 504 new junior engineers, 398 have been appointed under the Panchayati Raj department, 78 in Odisha Municipal Engineering cadre and 28 in the Public Health Engineering Cadre in the Housing & Urban Development department.
