Punjab: Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as Chief Minister of Punjab at at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, on Wednesday. He was administered the oath by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders were part of the swearing-in ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Mann said “I am the Chief Minister of everyone in Punjab, even those who did not vote for our party.”
The 48-year-old is the youngest Chief Minister of the state since the 1970s.
This is for the first time that the swearing-in ceremony of a Punjab CM has taken place outside the Raj Bhavan.
Earlier, Mann tweeted: “The golden rays of the sun have brought a new dawn today. Today the whole Punjab will take oath at Khatkar Kalan to make the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Baba Sahib come true.”
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Mann on his swearing-in as CM in a tweet.
AAP registered a landslide victory in Punjab elections, winning 92 seats in the 117-seat Assembly. Mann was contesting from Dhuri Assembly segment in Sangrur district and won by a margin of 58,206 votes over Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy.
