Balasore: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone of Subarnarekha Port and launched several other projects during his one day visit to Balasore on Wednesday.
The Subarnarekha project will be built in association with TATA Steel at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore. The construction work will finish within four years. The port will create 12,000 jobs in Odisha. It will have an estimated cargo handling capacity of 25-55 million MT per annum. The port will benefit West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Likewise, Bangladesh, Nepal and South-East Asian countries will get port facilities. The port will have 12 berths.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated 33 projects worth Rs 311 crore in the district and laid the foundation stone of 39 projects worth Rs 691 crore.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Chandipur Port for fishing. The Rs 50 crore worth port is expected to benefit 35,000 fishermen families. Naveen also addressed a gathering at the regional convention of Biju Yuva Vahini at Balasore Police Line Ground. He also visited Bhogarai block in the district and inaugurated the Talaseri Mohatsav.
Besides, he inaugurated 21 projects including, conservation and renovation of Subarnarekha embankment at Haranakuli village, construction of Jaleswar-Rankotha Road and bridges on Kapasaia and Chitei canals.
