Naveen Directs Officials To Gear Up For COVID 3rd Wave In August

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday called upon the officials engaged in COVID-19 management to remain prepared for the third wave of the pandemic.

Speaking at a high-level review meeting on COVID situation in the state, Naveen said since the third wave is likely to affect the state towards August-end, the health officials must be adequately prepared for it.

“The state government has been giving top priority to healthcare of the people and extending all possible help in this regard. The district administrations should ensure that all benefits reach the people without any hassle. It is their responsibility to save life of each individual,” he said.

“Though COVID positive rate has been under control in the state for the last few weeks, the situation is yet to improve in some districts. Considering this, the officials should reman alert,” he added.

He directed the IICs, BDOs, SDPOs, sub-collectors, SPS and district collectors to strictly enforce COVID guidelines like wearing face masks and maintaining social distance at public places.

Naveen further said the government has extended financial assistance to the people of economically backward categories like small farmers, construction workers, MGNREGS labourers, tribal families and students, Mission Shakti members and street vendors to tide over crisis due to the pandemic.

The government has sanctioned more than Rs 2004 crore to 10 departments engaged in COVID management, he added.

Chief secretary Suresh Mahapatra, additional chief secretary, Health PK Mohapatra, special relief commissioner PK Jena, DGP, secretaries of the departments concerned, SPs and district collectors participated in the meeting. Secretary (5T) to chief minsiter VK Pandian coordinated the meeting held through video-conference.
