Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated a mega Omfed plant at Arilo in the district.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Naveen thanked the dairy famers of the state for their contribution to make Omfed a successful venture. “Omfed belongs to the farmers’ own institution. The state government has always been striving for protection of the farmers. The plant will contribute to enhance the income capacity of 6 lakh farmers,” he added.
Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra and Minister Arun Sahoo accompanied the chief minister.
Set up at a cost of Rs 263 crore, the plant has the capacity to process five lakh litre of milk per day. Equipped with advanced facilities, the plant will also produce 30,000 litre curd, 10,000 litre butter milk, 5000 litre lassi, three ton butter, eight ton clarified butter, three ton cheese, 5000 litre flavoured milk and 20,000 ton milk powder.
The construction of the plant was awarded to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) which had started the work in November 2018.
