Naveen Jindal Takes Charge As President Of Indian Steel Association

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) chairman Naveen Jindal has been unanimously elected president of the Indian Steel Association (ISA).

Jindal took charge on March 21 from Dilip Oommen, CEO, AMNS India and Executive Vice-President, Arcelor Mittal.

Among other past presidents of ISA are JSW Steel CMD Sajjan Jindal and Tata Steel MD & CEO T. V. Narendran.

Members of Apex Committee, the governing body of ISA, lauded the leadership of outgoing president Oommen who steered the ISA at a time when the Industry faced various critical issues.

Jindal, who joined the BJP a day earlier and was announced as the party’s candidate from Kurukshetra for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, served as a Congress Parliamentarian from 2004 to 2014.

“For India to realise its development goals, steel along with its upstream and downstream manufacturing value chains have to grow in tandem. The decarbonisation is a huge challenge which is a key initiative for saving our planet. Steel Industry has taken the onus and is committed to decarbonise and reduce its carbon footprints to meet its target in-line with commitments of Prime Minister of India to the World. The Indian steel industry plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economic landscape, with far-reaching impacts across sectors and society,” said Jindal, known for successfully fighting a 10-year long legal battle which resulted in every Indian gaining the right to display the national flag on all days as part of their fundamental right.
