Bhubaneswar: Talented weightlifters Preetismita Bhoi and Jyoshna Sabar did Odisha proud at the IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championships being held at Videna National Sports Centre in Lima, Peru.
Preetismita lifted gold medal in women’s 40 kg category by setting a world record. The 16-year-old managed a total lift of 133 kg — 57 kg in snatch and a record 76 kg in clean & jerk, which improved the previous mark of 75 kg.
Jyoshna secured silver medal in the same competition and category with a total effort of 125 kg – 56 kg in snatch + 69 kg in clean & jerk.
It was all the more creditable for Preetismita as it was her international debut.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik congratulated the two weightlifters.
“Congratulate #Odisha weightlifters, Preetismita Bhoi and Jyoshna Sabar on clinching gold and silver medals respectively, at the IWF World Youth Championships in Lima, Peru. Their sporting achievement has made Odisha and the nation proud. May they keep shining and inspiring young athletes. #OdishaForSports,” Naveen posted on X.
