Bhubaneswar: Terming 25 years of BJD rule in Odisha as an era of failure in all spheres, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday claimed that over 40 per cent of families in the state are yet to get drinking water facilities.

Hitting out at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the ‘dismal’ show of his government, Odisha BJP vice-president Golak Mohapatra claimed that the BJD government has failed to ensure drinking water facilities for the people of the state in last 25 years.

Claiming that over 40 per cent of families in the state are yet to have drinking water facilities, he said that out of the over 88 lakh households in the state, 24 lakh families are yet to get drinking water facilities because of the BJD government’s inefficiency and apathy.

“It is a sign of gross failure of a government that has remained in power for 10,000 days,” the BJP leader claimed at a press meet in Bhubaneswar.

Coming down heavily on the BJD government, he said that the Centre had provided Rs 10,000 crore to the state under Jal Jeevan Mission but only Rs 834 crore of the fund has been spent by the Naveen Patnaik government as it is not bothered about people’s problems.

“People are deprived of drinking water facilities but the BJD government is not bothered at all as its sole aim is to win elections by making false promises,’ Mohapatra claimed.

While no pipe water could be provided in villages and panchayats, particularly in districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Kandhamal, over 30 per cent of schools are still devoid of water supply, the BJP leader claimed.

In view of such pathetic situation, the Chief Minister must explain as to where is transformation taking place in the state as claimed by his government, he said. The CM should also tell people as to why 40 per cent of households are yet to be provided with drinking water.

Coming down heavily on the state government, the BJP leader further accused it of looting money by giving works to blacklisted companies.
