Berhampur: Despite efforts by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik to ensure unity in the organisation, the regional party appears to be facing serious infighting and groupism in several areas of Odisha, particularly in Ganjam district.
Fissure in the party is clearly visible in Ganjam, the home district of the BJD supremo and former Chief Minister, with different groups openly raising their voice against certain leaders in the district. Rift in the party in Ganjam appeared to have assumed a serious shape after its debacle in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
It may be noted that as many as 25 BJD corporators had recently come together to openly oppose Berhampur Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei. The disgruntled corporators even held a press conference recently, exposing resentment among party workers and leaders.
In view of growing resentment in party cadre, the BJD president has called 36 corporators for discussion on Wednesday in an effort to deal with groupism, sources.
Senior leader Ramesh Chandra Chyayupatnaik along with Bikram Panda and Bhrugu Buxipatra are likely to bring the disgruntled corporators to Naveen Niwas.
