Bhubaneswar: BJD leader Rajanikant Singh was on Thursday elected uncontested as deputy speaker of the Odisha Assembly.
Chief Minister and leader of the Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik proposed Singh’s name for the post of deputy Speaker to Speaker Surya Narayan Patro. This was seconded by Parliamentary Affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh.
Singh’s election was a mere formality as the Opposition BJP and the Congress had not fielded their candidates for the deputy speaker’s post.
Son of former MLA Late Adwaita Prasad Singh and a resident of Gotamara village in Angul district, Rajanikant is a four-time MLA from Angul since 2004.
