Naveen Reiterates Inclusion Of ‘Non-Violence’ In Preamble Of Indian Constitution

New Delhi: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday reiterated his demand for the inclusion of the word ‘non-violence’ in the Preamble of the Constitution of India, which will be a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing the second meeting of the Committee for Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Rashtrapati Bhawan here, he said that the message of the Gandhian ideology of non-violence is that poverty and social injustice are the most dangerous form of violence. “The price of independence of a country has no value as long as poverty prevails. Poverty cannot be alleviated without non-violence. The development of a country is possible with the defeat of the divisive forces who try to break up the fabric of the society irrespective of caste, creed and colour,” he added.

Stating that India through the principle of non-violence has given a strong message to the world, the Chief Minister said that India’s struggle for freedom through non-violence is the best among the other forms of freedom struggle in the world. He called on the youths to embrace the ideology of non-violence of Gandhiji to foster the development of the country through peace and equality.
