Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced that the renovation work of the SCB Medical College and Hospital will be completed in three years and the new look hospital inaugurated on January 1, 2024.
Stating that he himself was looking after the highly prestigious project, Naveen hoped that it will emerge as one of the top three hospitals in the country in due course. Many doctors and surgeons who have earned name and fame by contributing their services outside the country will feel proud to work for the people of their birthplace, he added.
To be constructed on 175 acre of land, the hospital will have 3500 beds in the first phase and subsequently, 1500 more will be added. Besides, 1280 quarters will be constructed for the hospital staff and hostels to accommodate 2200 students.
The project, taken up under 5T programme of the state government, is estimated to cost Rs 3500 crore. It will be equipped with latest equipment in health care sector and facilities for medical services. The premises will have modern transport facility, restaurant and market complex.
The chief minister said an independent management committee will be formed to ensure improvement in services and research in the hospital.
