Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will felicitate the Indian badminton team that won Thomas Cup for the first time.
The chief minister will felicitate each member of the team at a function to be organised by Sports and Youth Services department in Odisha capital on Wednesday. Former international badminton player Pulela Gopichand will also be honoured on the occasion.
The Indian team scripted history by defeating 14-time champions Indonesia to win the Thomas Cup played at Impact Arena in Thailand on May 15. India lifted the cup without losing a match in the tournament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also interacted with the team members after their return and praised them for their achievement which, he said, has made all Indians proud.
Immediately after the Indian team’s historic victory, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had congratulated the boys and announced cash award of Rs 1 crore.
