Mumbai: After nearly a decade, former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu will be returning to cricket commentary with the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), starting March 22.
He will be part of the Star Sports broadcasting team and begin his second innings as a commentator with the season opener between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.
“Sardar of commentary box is back,” Star Sports posted on X on Tuesday while announcing the cricketer-turned-politician’s return to yesteryear pitch. “A wise man once said, “Hope is the biggest ‘tope’” And this wise man, the great @sherryontopp himself, has joined our Incredible StarCast!” the post added.
Cricket fans also welcomed Sidhu, who is known for his witty one-liners, with interesting reactions on social media.
“Look, commentary runs in my blood. It’s my identity. Like the great Guru gave us our turban. I am recognised by my turban. I am very fortunate guy that my hobby is my profession,” Sidhu told Indiatoday.in in an interaction facilitated by Star Sports.
The right-handed batter played 51 Tests and 136 ODIs for India from 1983 to 1998 and has 15 centuries and 48 half-centuries to his name. He is also a three-time MP from Amritsar, a one-time Rajya Sabha member and a one-time MLA from Amritsar East.
