Puri: An Indian Navy diving team rescued a 20-year-old man from the sea near the Niladri beach in Puri, an official said Wednesday.
According to sources, diving team heard a distress call from the 20-year-old, identified as Pintu Pujari, while carrying out a recce of the beach around 10.30am on Tuesday. The victim’s knees were fractured after being struck by a rock while swimming at the deep end of the beach.

Upon hearing the youth’s cries for help, two divers rushed for help. They swam about 100 meters into the rough sea with considerable swell and brought the victim back safely ashore. The heavy Swell in the sea and waves of 2 to 3 meters height amid strong currents had posed challenges to the rescuers.
They carried him on the shoulders to the ambulance point, about 1km from the beach. Later, he was rushed to the nearest hospital in Puri, where is presently undergoing treatment, the sources added.
