Mumbai: Nawazuddin Siddiqui has landed in trouble for a gambling advertisement in police uniform.

Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, a Hindu organisation, has lodged a complaint against the actor for insulting Maharashtra police in the poker ad.

In the commercial, Nawazuddin is seen donning police uniform and asking people to play online gambling game poker.

This has not gone down well with Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, which believes that showing a policeman gambling and encouraging people to gamble is an insult to the hard-working cops, Free Press Journal reported.

Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has written to Mumbai Police commissioner and Maharashtra director general of police, urging them to take action against the actor and owner of Big Cash Poker Ankur Singh.

Abhishek Murukate, Maharashtra state coordinator of the welfare campaign Surajya Abhiyan, demanded action against Nawazuddin under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, and Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.

“This is alarming because the same police department files cases against such people and arrests gamblers. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ strongly condemns this, as it tarnishes the image of Maharashtra Police. Ignoring this could lead to more illegal and unethical advertisements using police uniforms,” Abhishek wrote in his letter.

“The Maharashtra police are trained through hard work, but this advertisement attempts to suggest that online gambling gives them skills. It is disappointing that no police officer has been compelled to take action against this application and it is unfortunate that complaints have to be made by others. We also wish that Maharashtra’s home minister also takes cognizance of the matter,” the letter stated.

Nawazuddin was last seen in ‘Haddi’ and ‘Rautu Ka Raaz’.
