Bhubaneswar: In order to attract the students in remote and backward areas of Odisha to education, the NCERT has constituted a committee to prepare study materials in Kui and Desia languages.
In a notification, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) stated about formation of the committee which would prepare learning and teaching materials in the two languages.
The committee will work in collaboration with the Central University of Odisha in Koraput and develop the study materials materials for the Kui and Desia speaking students.
The committee is headed by Prof BK Panda, Project Director, Center of Excellence for Studies in Classical Odia, Bhubaneswar. Other members of the committee are Prof Amarendra P Behera, Joint Director, CIET-NCERT, New Delhi; Rudrani Mohanty, Asst Professor, CU, Koraput; Kapil Khemandu, Asst Professor, CU Koraput; Rajendra Padhi; Gopabandhu Mohanty, Subrat Prusty, Mahendra Mishra, Dileshwar Rama and Prof Prakash Chandra Agrawal, Principal, RIE, Bhubaneswar.
While Kui is spoken by the Kandha tribals in Odisha, Desia, considered a dialect of Odia, is spoken by the local people of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts.
