Bhubaneswar: Late last night the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2020) results were announced. Soon the toppers were making headlines. Among them, the top two, Soyeb Aftab and Akanksha Singh have been grabbing all the attention. Know why? Because they both scored equal marks yet landed on two different ranks.
Since then everyone’s intrigued to know why Akansha Singh had to settle for rank 2 while Odisha’s Soyeb was declared all India first. We break it down for you.
To everyone’s surpirse, NEET has a tie-breaker policy wherein the candidate older in age will be given preference over the younger one while deciding the rank.
While Uttar Pradesh’s Akanksha is 17-years-old, Odisha’s Soyeb Aftab is 18. Due to this tie-break rule, Soyeb was given rank no 1 and Akanksha had to settle for rank 2 despite achieving the same score.
“I always wanted to become a doctor and study at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Since there was no big coaching institute in my town, I have to travel for four hours to reach my institute in Gorakhpur. After passing class 10, I shifted to Delhi for plus 2 and joined Aakash institute,” Akanksha told a leading daily.
On the other hand, Soyeb Aftab said that he didn’t expect to bag the first rank and now wants to study at AIIMS Delhi.
