NEET, JEE Mains To Be Held Twice A Year: Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi: Education minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Saturday that National Level Engineering and Medical Entrance examinations (JEE Main and NEET) will be held twice a year from 2019, online.

According to the minister JEE Main and NEET will be held by newly formed examination conducting agency, National Testing Agency (NTA).

NTA will also conduct UGC NET and CMAT exams.

The exams will be held on multiple dates, the minister added. While JEE Mains will be held in January and April, NEET will be conducted in February and May.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the nodal agency at the moment, responsible for organizing the two examinations.

“The candidates appearing these tests will be allowed to use the best score from the examinations in counselling process,” the minister added.

The syllabus and other formalities will remain same for the examinations.

The Union Cabinet in its meeting held last year, approved creation of NTA as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for Higher Education Institutions in India.

NTA would locate the centres at sub-district/district level and provide hands-on training to as many students possible to serve the requirements of rural students.
