NEET Row: Opposition To Bring Adjournment Motions In Both Houses Of Parliament

New Delhi: Four days into the new Parliament session, post the 2024 Lok Sabha election, we have already seen some controversies.

Differences between the BJP-led ruling alliance and Opposition surfaced over the election of Lok Sabha Speaker and Deputy Speaker. And now, the huge row over 1975 Emergency, which was invoked by Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday and also mentioned by President Droupadi Murmu in her address to the joint session of Parliament on Thursday.

There are fireworks coming up, with the Opposition INDIA bloc deciding to bring adjournment motions on NEET row in both houses of Parliament on Friday.

As per the decision taken at a meeting of INDIA group parties at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on Thursday, the Opposition will raise issues on NEET, inflation, unemployment, alleged misuse of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Governor’s office during the debate on President Murmu’s address.

“Several issues were discussed today in the meeting… There will be a debate on all the issues in the Parliament including the President’s address and election of Speaker,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said after the meeting.

“We will give notices (in Parliament) on the NEET issue tomorrow,” ANI quoted DMK MP T Siva as saying.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took charge as Prime Minister for the third straight term, and his government are under fire from over allegations of irregularities in NEET-UG 2024 and cancellations of UGC-NET, CSIR UGC-NET and NEET-PG examinations.

President Murmu said during her address to joint session of Parliament that the government is committed to fair investigation.

“Whether it is competitive examinations or government recruitment, there should be no reason for any hindrance. This process requires complete transparency and probity. Regarding the recent instances of paper leak in some examinations, my government is committed to a fair investigation and ensuring strict punishment to the culprits,” Murmu stated.

Responding to the President’s address, Kharge said that the Modi government can’t “run away from its responsibility by simply saying that ‘we should rise above partisan politics’.”
