Bhubaneswar: Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Wednesday created a sculpture of Nelson Mandela on the Puri beach to pay tribute to the world leader on his 100th birth anniversary.
A large number of tourists and residents gathered on the beach to witness the making of the sand art.
He posted a picture of his sand on Twitter and wrote, “#MandelaDay On the 100th Birth Anniversary of the great freedom fighter, the Noble Peace Prize winners inspired the World for Democracy and Global Human Right. My Sand Art at Puri Beach, Odisha,India.”
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also paid tribute to Nelson Mandela and tweeted, “Tributes to #NelsonMandela on 100th birth anniversary; he showed the world the path of perseverance by cultivating the values of humanity, secularism and community feeling to empower all of us. #NelsonMandelaInternationalDay.”
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African revolutionary and politician, famous for fighting against institutionalized discrimination against Blacks in his country.
