Kathmandu: Nepal thanked India for its support and solidarity following the devastating flash floods on August 26 that has killed 626 people and left over 2,000 people missing till date.
Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel on Saturday also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being “exceptionally generous” and expressed gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu for her concern in Nepal’s hour of grave crisis.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of Nepal, I extend our deepest gratitude to Your Excellency Smt Droupadi Murmu for your kind concern and also for the generous support and solidarity extended by your government following the recent calamity in Nepal,” Paudel wrote in a post on X.
In another post, the Nepalese President condoled the deaths of Indian nationals in the disaster.
Although no official figure has been given on casualties, the Ministry of External Affairs said 287 Indians and 128 persons of Indian origin remain missing more than 72 hours after the flash floods.
“We also offer our heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Government and the people of India for the tragic loss of Indian lives in the disaster of August 26, 2026,” Paudel wrote in another post.
Nepal Finance minister Swarnim Wagle said India had indicated it would extend generous assistance for reconstruction in affected areas of the Himalayan nation.
PM Modi had spoken to Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah hours after the disaster on August 26, and assured him of all possible assistance.
