Chennai: Tamil Nadu witnessed a historic political moment on Sunday as actor-turned-politician Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of the state.
While the grand ceremony in Chennai drew loud cheers from supporters and close associates, social media conversations soon shifted towards the absence of his wife and children, sparking widespread speculation and debate online.
“Many feeling sad seeing the absence of his wife and children at such an important event,” wrote a social media user.
Another commented, “Only Thing I Have Missed Today: Vijay’s Wife Sangeetha, Vijay’s Son Jason Sanjay, Vijay’s Daughter Sasha. That Would Be Great in This HISTORIC Occassion.”
“I know its personal, but yes it hurts personally for me as a fan of #Vijay. If not his wife, at least his son and daughter should’ve been invited for the event… ,” one wrote.
“I don’t want to bring his wife into this since they’re reportedly going through a divorce. But if even the children didn’t wish him or attend the ceremony, just imagine how hurt they must’ve been and what Vijay could have done for things to reach this point,” another wrote.

However, some fans defended him, writing, “I think #Vijay and his ex-wife know exactly what they are doing. They are grown-up adults! Their kids are grown-ups too. People have no business criticising one party or sympathising with the other. Their life, their decision. Be a good CM! That’s all that shd matter to public.”
Another shared, “He & his wife was living separately for a year so why should his wife & children come to his Swearing ceremony, plz stop your hate mongering it’s a human nature to move on.”
One commented, “I don’t understand why people are hating on Trisha this much. We don’t know what exactly happened between vijay and his wife. Going by his dad’s word, they both got separated 2 years ago.”

Earlier in February, Sangeeta Sornalingam reportedly filed for divorce from Vijay, accusing the actor-politician of infidelity and alleging that he was involved with an actress.
Soon after the reports surfaced, Vijay and Trisha Krishnan were seen attending a wedding reception in Chennai wearing coordinated outfits, further intensifying speculation around their relationship.
Vijay and Sangeeta are parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), founded by Vijay, performed strongly in the elections, emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, but fell short of the 118-seat majority despite teaming up with Congress in a post-poll alliance.
After several rounds of discussions with smaller parties, TVK eventually crossed the magic mark with support from Congress (5 seats), Communist Party of India (CPI – 2), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM – 2), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK – 2), and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML – 2).
