Bhubaneswar: To decongest the Odisha capital, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is trying to give a push to its new city plan – Bhubaneswar South City. It will be part of the Smart City Project.
“Space crunch in Bhubaneswar does not allow for creating modern infrastructure and facilities. The new city will have all facilities that a smart city needs, including well-designed roads, public space, commercial complexes, educational institutions, hospitals and recreational centre,” said BDA secretary Rabindra Nath Mishra.
“It is still in the planning stage. BDA will work on it and implement it in near future,” Mishra added.
According to BDA sources, the new city will be created by merging Subudhipur, Shampur and some other Bhubaneswar suburbs. A detailed project report will be submitted to the Odisha government for approval. It will seek 300 acres of land for creating housing and other infrastructure in the first phase.
Similar urban corridors along major arterial roads around the city with proper infrastructure will meet the demand of growing economic activities and flow of investment into Bhubaneswar, the sources added.
