Mumbai: At a time when the row over Ranveer Allahbadia’s crass comment on the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show is still raging, another controversy looms on the horizon.
This time, stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui is in the spotlight.
A complaint has been filed against Munawar for “promoting vulgarity and insulting religions” through his jokes on the new show ‘Hafta Vasooli’.
Advocate Amita Sachdeva posted on X: “I have officially filed a complaint against habitual offender Munawar Faruqui, for his show ‘Hafta Wasooli’ streamed on @JioHotstar, requesting an FIR under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353, along with the IT Act and other relevant sections.”
Sachdeva has accused him of “promoting vulgarity, insulting multiple religions, violating cultural values and polluting young minds & society.”
The complaint has been sent via email and will be physically submitted and speed-posted on Monday. “If no action is taken, I will approach the Court to ensure justice prevails,” added the lawyer.
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti earlier called for a boycott of the new show.
“We demand an immediate ban on #HaftaVasooli airing on Jio Hotstar! In this show @munawar uses foul language, which is unacceptable for public viewing. It sinks moral values. Streaming platforms must act responsibly! @JioHotstar @MIB_India #JioHotstar_Ban_HaftaVasooli @UdayMahurkar @SachdevaAmita,” Hindu Janajagruti Samiti posted on X.
‘Hafta Vasooli’ started streaming on OTT platform Jio Hostar on February 14.
Two episodes have been aired so far, the first one featuring Sharib Hashmi and Vivian Dsena as guests and the second episode having actor Saqib Saleem.
Munawar courted trouble earlier also. In 2021, he was arrested for allegedly hurting sentiments of Hindus. The ‘Bigg Boss 17’ winner was released on bail after over a month in jail.
