Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 2,275 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marking a fall in single day surge for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday.
The number of new cases was 2,423 on Monday, 2,546 on Sunday and 2,854 on Saturday.
Of the 2,275 new cases reported by the government on Tuesday, 1,318 are in quarantine and 957 are local contacts.
Among the districts, Khurda led the tally with 364 new cases, followed by Sundargarh (150), Cuttack (144), Angul (136), Balasore (111), Mayurbhanj (110), Jharsuguda (100), Jajpur (82), Balangir (77), Puri (71), Nuapada (69), Kendrapada (68), Kalahandi (64), Bargarh (64), Sambalpur (56), Jagatsinghpur (55), Malkangiri (53), Bhadrak (50), Sonepur (50), Kandhamal (50), Koraput (39), Nabarangpur (39), Keonjhar (37), Ganjam (36), Rayagada (33), Nayagarh (31), Dhenkanal (27), Boudh (21), Deogarh (15) and Gajapati (6).
Apart from this, the state poll has 67 cases.
Out of the 2,56,937 confirmed positive cases in Odisha so far, 25,635 are active cases and 2,30,192 patients have recovered.
Also on Tuesday, health experts cautioned that the people should not be overwhelmed by the fall in the number of positive cases in the state.
“The daily COVID-19 tests in Odisha, which were around 50,000 earlier, have now come down to about 40,000. It is obvious that the number of positive cases will be less if the number of tests falls. But if the number of tests is more and the number of positive cases is less, then only we can say that the positivity rate in Odisha has come down,” Dr Anang Dwidewi, a well-known physician, said.
